Bring learning to life with History House's NL curriculum-based programming! 

History House offers a variety of programs and services for school groups from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Teachers and youth leaders are encouraged to email museum@torbay.ca or call 709-233-0542 to schedule their class visit or request in-class program delivery.

Museum Tours

KINDERGARTEN to GRADE 6

Perfect for any grade, our museum tours are a wonderful way to explore Torbay's past and have fun with exciting heritage activities.  

Fun with Artifacts

GRADE 1

Students learn about the properties of objects and materials by examining artifacts in the museum's collection. 

Harvest Home

GRADE 1 & 2

Learn about the important role of agriculture and food preservation in this interactive culinary-based workshop.

The Creamery

GRADE 1 & 2

Children explore the changing nature of household work and the role of children in the family by learning how to churn butter or ice cream. 

History of Writing

GRADE 2

Designed for Grade 2 social studies, this hands-on program explores the history of writing technology: clay tablet, quill & ink, and the typewriter. 

Fishers & Merchants

GRADE 2

This game-based activity introduces students to the economy of the 19th century cod fishery in rural Newfoundland and Labrador.

Folk Art Creations

KINDERGARTEN

Perfect for Kindergarten classes, this craft program encourages children to explore the work of local folk artist Harry Sullivan and try their hand at making their own folk art creations.

Sprouting into Spring

KINDERGARTEN to GRADE 6

We are thrilled to be able to offer this new multidisciplinary program that combines heritage and environmental education.

Our Sprouting into Spring program is made possible through the generous support of the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. 

Program Fees

These programs are made possible by funding provided by the Town of Torbay and our sponsors. Thanks to this generous support, there are no fees for schools within the municipality. 

For schools outside Torbay, the following fees are applied per participating student: 

Living History Workshops $1.50 per student 

Visual Arts Workshops $3.00 per student

Discovery Labs $2.00 per student


Transportation

We love hosting fieldtrips and we are happy to work with you to design the best experience for your students. For classes traveling to the museum by bus, we are happy to package multiple programs together at a discounted rate to help you make the most of your transportation budget. 

We are also happy to come to you! Most of our programs can be setup and delivered right in your classroom. Our instructors are happy to work with you to design exciting, interactive learning experiences. For more information, please send us an email at museum@torbay.ca
